1 - Which types of fish are caught in this region?
Patagonian lakes and rivers offer us mainly specimens of the family Salmonidae (Rainbow, Brown and Brook trout) as well as perch and mackerels. Although rare, you can even catch some land-locked salmon.

2 - Which sizes are the trout?
Record fish are a 9/10-kg. (18-20 lb.) Brown, a 5-kg (11-lb.) Rainbow, and a 3-kg (6.6-lb.) Brook -- smaller than other salmonids, but a really good fighter.

3 - Are we allowed to kill our catch?
We are strong supporters of Catch & Release. However, the Patagonian Fishing Regulation allows certain daily killing depending on the season and location (rules may even vary in different segments of the same river/lake).>

4 - Do you do shore or boat fishing?
Rivers can be fished either from the shore or from a raft/boat. We prefer boat fishing in lakes to have easier access to better fisheries.

5 - Which boats do you use?
At present, we use state-of-the-art Cata-Rafts on rivers and inflatable boats on lakes (safer for these waters), propelled by four-stroke, off-board, environmental-friendly motors. Each craft carries two fishermen comfortably.

6 - Do you welcome beginners?
Fishing in Patagonia is a unique experience for everyone. Even if you’ve fished in other places before, you’ll experience an absolute different challenge in our rivers and lakes. If you’ve never fished before, you’ll find in Lost Rivers highly experienced and trained guides ready to teach you this new art, and perhaps, even turn you into an excellent fly fisherman! Our guides are friendly, patient and good connoisseurs of the fishing spirit.

7 - Do we have to take any special care regarding sun-protection, insects, etc.?
In summer there are many small insects, especially horseflies, which may be very annoying if you don’t have a good repellent. We also recommend using long sleeves and pants to have all your body covered and protected against insects and strong sunrays.

8 - Which services are included in the program?
Our programs include all transfers (including to-from airport), accommodations, meals, soft and hard drinks, snacks, equipment cleaning and over 8 hours of guided fishing per day.

9 - Which services are NOT included?
Our programs don’t include air tickets, telephone calls, laundry, hotel tips/extras, fishing equipment and fishing licenses. Needless to say, Lost Rivers will provide anything you need to continue with your fishing trip, in case you lose o break any part of your personal equipment.

10 - Where are the lodges located?
We offer premium lodging at Paimún and Tromen lakes, and at other nice places on the shores of rivers Malleo and Collón Curá.

11 - How are the rooms of the lodges?
Well-appointed rooms accommodate up to two fishermen, to ensure privacy and comfort. Rooms have good heating, electricity, private bathrooms with hot water, housekeeping, and soft sheets and towels. Their awesome location adds to the charming and picturesque characteristics of the lodges, creating a perfect environment to enjoy and relax as you’ve always longed for.

12 - How is a typical fishing day?

Our day begins early in the morning. After a delicious breakfast, we head for the best places to catch great fish. At noon, we return to the lodge for lunch and a short rest. Early in the afternoon, we continue fishing until the sun sets, returning to the lodge to enjoy excellent gourmet cuisine and Argentina’s finest wines. While you take a hot bath or have some drinks at the bar, our guides will clean your equipment and leave it ready for the next fishing day. After dinner, you can relax contemplating the extraordinary scenery or taking a short walk to breathe the pure, peaceful Patagonian air.

13 - How many days in advance do I have to make my reservation?
The sooner, the better! Our high season runs from November through March. Please, contact us as soon as you have decided the dates of your trip, so we can guarantee your booking.

14 - What happens if I am a proficient angler and there are beginners in my group?

Don’t worry – we are used to this. If you want to fish together, we’ll manage to suit all anglers’ needs. Your guide we’ll share the time as fairly as possible, spending more time with beginners in polishing their fly casting techniques, while you fish at your leisure, without the permanent assistance of the guide.

15 - Are children welcome?
We have learnt from experience that only children aged 12 or over are able to enjoy an 8-hour fishing day. If you are traveling with children below 12, please let us know so we can tell you when there will be other families at the lodge. Young children can make friends and spend a lovely time too.

16 - Which type of equipment you suggest?
See "Recommended Equipment" on "Fishing Programs" section.

17 - Which airport serves the region?
The “Aviador Carlos Campos” airport, most commonly known as “Chapelco Airport”, serves this area of Northern Patagonia, and is located 20 km. (32 mi.) from the city of San Martín de los Andes. We’ll be there to welcome and transfer you to the lodges not farther than 100 km. (160 mi), most of them in the Lanín National Park.

18 - Where can I buy my fishing license?
We can get the license for you. We’ll need your full name, I.D., age and address.

19 - Recommended Equipment:
- Rain gear: two-piece, good-quality rain suit is just perfect (nylon with thermo-sealed seams, preferred). Gore-Tex is not really a must. We don’t recommend ponchos, as they are uncomfortable in windy areas.
- Waders: Neoprene or breathable - your choice.
- Wading boots and shoes: light, comfortable and waterproof.
- Pants: Comfortable and durable. Pack a short for hot days or for swimming in lakes and rivers.
- T-shirts: Short and long-sleeved; hooded ones are a good option.
- Jackets/sweaters: We recommend Polartec fleece, Wind Stoppers or woolen jackets or sweaters. These garments keep us warm even when wet.
- Socks: Wool or synthetic fabric are excellent options
- Gloves: Ultra-light wool or Polartec fleece.
- Woolen hats: You won’t regret it!
- Caps: for sunny days and rain protection
- Extra equipment: we have a lot of room in the boats to carry dry clothes, if you want.
